In my quest to find the best ingredients possible I came across a sericite mica that has a LAUROYL LYSINE coating. This amino acid is derived from coconuts and used in mineral makeup to provide a silky finish. It also makes it more life proof, meaning it will perform better under wet conditions like sweat or tears. In fact it can even make it water resistant! Whenever I come across a new ingredient, I look it up. Turns out this coconut derivative is great! Lauroyl lysine is a derivative of lauric acid and lysine, a naturally occurring amino acid it has no known toxic effects. The last time I had come across an ingredient sounding this good was when I looked into micro spheres made of silicon dioxide. It was explained that because of their spherical shape, silicas scatter light and blur the look of fine lines and wrinkles. It also absorbs oil leaving a matte finish. All the reviews were saying it was amazing. Who wouldn’t want that on their face. When I tried to looked it up, I found that Silicon dioxide and silica gel are used in insecticides and acaracides, used in controlling insects, mites and ticks in a variety of indoor and outdoor sites. I also found out it that it kills by sucking all the moisture out of critters! Yikes, no wonder it had oil absorbing properties. In humans inhaling finely divided crystalline silica dust can lead to silicosis, bronchitis, or cancer, as the dust becomes lodged in the lungs and continuously irritates them, reducing lung capacities. Yikes! Needless to say, I did not buy it. Not what I want in a powder foundation or to be working with in my lab!
