Considering one in eight of the 82,000 ingredients used in personal care products are industrial chemicals, including carcinogens, pesticides, reproductive toxins, and hormone disruptors. Many products include plasticizers (chemicals that keep concrete soft), degreasers (used to get grime off auto parts), and surfactants (they reduce surface tension in water, like in paint and inks). Imagine what that does to your skin, and to the environment. (http://davidsuzuki.org/issues/health/science/toxics/dirty-dozen-cosmetic-chemicals/).
This simple Natural beauty routine will help you begin to eliminate the use of those chemicals, and in combination with natural mineral make up, it will enable you to substantially lower your exposure to toxic chemicals.
Thoroughly cleanse the skin and exfoliate regularly. I use a Rosehip bar soap and warm water with a wash cloth to scrub away the dirt, grime and make up from my day.
Using water as hot as I can get it from the tap, I fill the sink and place my face over the sink with a towel covering my head to trap the steam. I steam my face for about 3 minutes. This opens up any pores and loosens up the toughest grime.
I exfoliate using a gentle circle motion with an exfoliating scrub like my DIY Coffee Scrub. Rinse and pat your face dry.
I tone using an alcohol free toner like my simple DIY Rose Water and Glycerin Toner.
I then apply my DIY: Night Repair Serum featuring Jojoba oil. This is the real heavy hitter when providing nourishing anti-oxidants and healthy botanicals directly to freshly scrubbed and cleaned skin. It can be a bit oily for use in the daytime but when you wake up in the morning, you will look years younger!
Here is how it works: Jojoba oil mimics the skin's natural sebum oil. It contains almost all of the vitamins and minerals essential for healthy skin and hair: vitamin E, B-complex, copper, zinc, selenium, and chromium. It will not plug pores, and is gentle enough to be used on sensitive skin without causing allergic reactions. Jojoba also contains iodine, which may fight harmful bacteria growth that causes pimples, blackheads, and breakouts.
Grape seed oil, Avocado oil, and Olive oil are all high in polyphenols, which is a type of anti-oxidant. Anti-oxidants free up the skin from free radicals which cause aging. A healthy dose of anti-oxidants at night keeps the wrinkles away in the morning. Vitamin E oil also works to block free radicals from the body, which play a large part in the aging process.
Enjoy making these DIY Beauty Formulas. You will notice a dramatic difference in a very short amount of time if you maintain this routine. Think of all the chemicals you are avoiding and how much better your skin will look and feel. Please comment and let me know how your natural beauty routine is working out.
