This is a very easy, one ingredient recipe, but I find it to be one of the most useful. I use it as an eye makeup remover, moisturizer, lip conditioner, and to minimize stretch marks and scars. My husband uses it to shave with, and has since not had any in grown hairs. All you need is a glass jar (small mason jar will work just fine) and some organic, cold pressed, virgin coconut oil, and optional essential oils. I like to add lavender and ylang ylang for extra conditioning, and to add a lovely smell.
1. Fill your jar with as much coconut oil as it can hold.
2. Microwave on low for 30-45 seconds. Remove from microwave. Not all the oil should be melted but a good portion of it should be liquid.
4. Gently swirl the container until all the oil is melted. Add more oil if necessary to fill the jar and melt it with the rest. The key is not to microwave it too long. Less time is better, you don't want to cook all the healthy antioxidants out of the oil.
5. Add 5-10 drops of essential oils (optional) and let cool in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
Store it in the fridge and it will last longer. I make about 30 grams which will last about a month when used every day.
Other uses for this balm include a light SPF tanning oil, hair conditioner, diaper rash treatment, nail conditioner, and eyelash enhancer- just to name a few! For more information on coconut oil, read this post.
